Sanctions Profile: Haiti

At a glance

In October 2022, the UN Security Council established a Haiti sanctions regime by unanimously adopting resolution 2653 (2022). This was later adopted by the EU and EU.

Previous UN sanctions on Haiti were lifted by UN Security Council Resolution 944 and UN Security Council Resolution 948.

Canada designates Haitian businessmen

Yesterday, Canada designated 3 Haitian businessmen, Marc Antoine Acra, Carl Braun and Jean Marie Vorbe, for “fuelling the violence and instability in Haiti through corruption and other criminal acts and by enabling the illegal activities of armed gangs that terrorize the population and threaten peace and security in Haiti” (press release, amendment).
