US adds 1 & de-lists 11 from Zimbabwe sanctions

On Thursday (15 September 2022), Stephen Mutamba, the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Deputy Commissioner for Administration, was added to the US’ Zimbabwe sanctions list (Executive Order 13469) for his alleged role in undermining Zimbabwe’s democratic processes and institutions. Mr Mutamba is said to have organised actions that threaten and undermine legitimate political parties and others who oppose the policies of the Government of Zimbabwe or the ruling party. In addition, OFAC has de-listed 11 people from Zimbabwe sanctions. Those removed are either deceased or have been deemed to no longer undermine Zimbabwe’s democratic processes and institutions.

  • Those de-listed: Kenneth Manyonda, Simon Khaya Moyo, Olivia Nyembezi Muchena, Selina Pote, Perence Shiri, Absolom Sikosana, Paradzai Zimondi, Biggie Joel Matiza, Edwin Muguti, Morris Sakabuya and Tendai Savanhu.
