US sanctions 2 senior Guatemalan officials for corruption

The US has designated Gustavo Adolfo Alejos Cambara (the former chief of staff to the presidential administration), and Felipe Alejos Lorenzana (a delegate to the Guatemalan Congress) for their roles in corruption, pursuant to Executive Order 13818 (Global Magnitsky sanctions). The officials are said to have facilitated payments to congressional representatives and judges to influence the selection process for magistrates. …
