US renews Sudan Darfur sanctions & asks UN to lift measures

In November 1997, the US adopted Executive Order (E.O.) 13607, which was later amended by E.O. 13400. The E.O.s declared a national emergency in respect of Sudan, and implemented UN Security Council resolutions targeting the regional conflict in Darfur.
