President Donald Trump has signed into law the Uighur Human Rights Policy Act of 2020, which authorises sanctions (asset freeze and travel ban) against Chinese officials for the “systematic use of indoctrination camps, forced labour and intrusive surveillance to eradicate the ethnic identity and beliefs of Uighurs and other minority populations” in the Xinjiang Uighur region in China.
