Panama Maritime Authority to impose fines on vessels deactivating AIS

The Panama Maritime Authority have issued a merchant marine circular to warn Panama registered-vessels that a fine of up to $10,000 will be imposed on all vessels that “deliberately deactivate, tamper or alter the operation of Long Range Identification and Tracking System (LRIT) or the Automatic Identification System (AIS)”.
