The US has imposed targeted sanctions on 2 Nicaraguan government officials for their “significant support” for the Ortega regime’s “repression and dismantling of democratic institutions”. They are Julio Cesar Aviles Castillo, Commander-in-Chief of the Nicaraguan army, and Ivan Adolfo Acosta Montalvan, Minister of Finance and Public Credit. US State Department press release.
