EU confirms launch of preparatory work for human rights sanctions regime

Yesterday (9 December), Josep Borrell, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, announced that: “EU has agreed to launch the preparatory work for a global sanctions regime to address serious human rights violations”. Mr Borrell added that the legislation will be “the European Union equivalent of the so-called Magnitsky Act in the United States”. Press Release here.
