Germany extends Saudi arms embargo for 6 months

Germany is continuing its arms embargo against Saudi Arabi for a further 6 months, until 30 September 2019. The arms embargo was put in place following the killing of Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi Consulate General in Istanbul (see previous post). During this period no new export applications will be approved by Germany, but the German government will allow extensions of licences for 9 months for weapons and military equipment developed jointly with the UK and France. This extension applies provided that finished weapons systems are not sent to Saudi Arabia or the UAE until the end of 2019.
