EU warns of sanctions following military attack in Libya

The EU’s High Representative Federica Mogherini has expressed concern over the military attack launched by the Libyan National Army on Tripoli and “the involvement of terrorist and criminal elements in the fighting, including individuals listed by the UN Security Council”. The EU has called for “international and regional partners to exert their influence”, indicating that parties who violate international law “will be held accountable”. A UN-led conference to set up elections had to be postponed last week due to the ongoing fighting in the region. See Press Release.
