OFAC introduces CAPTA List for sanctioned financial institutions

OFAC is replacing the List of Foreign Financial Institutions Subject to Part 561 (the “Part 561 List”) with the List of Foreign Financial Institutions Subject to Correspondent Account or Payable-Through Account Sanctions (the “CAPTA List”). See CAPTA List and Guidance.

The CAPTA List includes identifying information on foreign financial institutions prohibited from opening or maintaining US accounts. The institutions’ specific conditions or prohibitions are pursuant to sanctions legislation on Ukraine, North Korea, Iran and Hizballah. For the full list of legislation, see OFAC Notice.
