US sanctions supporters of Syrian government

OFAC has designated 8 people and 7 entities as Specially Designated Nationals, for allegedly providing support to the government of Syria, aiding Syria’s WMD programme, or supporting other designated people and entities.

In the Treasury’s press release, Acting Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Adam Szubin said that “From expanding its weapons of mass destruction programme to inflicting horrific violence upon the Syrian people, the Assad regime relentlessly engages in destabilising behaviour”, adding that the Treasury “will continue to act against those responsible”. There are currently around 221 people and entities listed under the US’ Syria sanctions regime, and around 289 under its non-proliferation regime.
