One year after the JCPOA nuclear deal with Iran was agreed in Vienna (see previous blog), the EU’s High Representative Federica Mogherini has made a statement on progress to date and the next steps for EU sanctions on Iran. Ms Mogherini reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting “the full and effective implementation of the JCPOA”, and said the EU had met its commitments to lifting sanctions on Implementation Day in January (see previous blog). She said clarity in respect of the sanctions that had been lifted was essential to allowing European banks and businesses to reengage with Iran, noted that the EU had published guidance, including a comprehensive note, on the sanctions that have been lifted, and said it was committed to continue its active engagement with the private sector.
