OFAC extends narcotics general licence

Last month, OFAC published General Licence 3 under its Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Sanctions Regulations, to authorise all otherwise prohibited transactions that are necessary to maintain the operations of Panamanian newspapers La Estrella and El Siglo (see previous blog). OFAC has now published General Licence 3A, which extends the authorisations for 6 months from 6 July 2016 to 6 January 2017.

The newspapers are said to be owned or controlled by the Waked Money Laundering Organisation, and would otherwise have been adversely affected by the designation of that organisation in May.
