The White House has reportedly authorised a waiver for international banks to transfer $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds from South Korea to Qatar (without fear of the enforcement of US sanctions) for the release of 5 American citizens detained in Iran. As part of the deal, the US will also release 5 Iranian citizens held in the US.
